Society finches

Ok, they were not completely an impulse buy.  I have wanted a couple finches for years but never actually bought any.  Today (Sept 4, 2004) I went to the local Bird Fair and as I knew there would be, found the gentleman that breeds finches.  I was only "gonna look"!  Actually, it was the cage.  It's not fancy but it was large and it was very inexpensive.  (About 1/4th of what I would have paid at the pet stores).  So, since I was able to afford the cage - I bought the birds to go in it.

They are not "fancy" birds but I think they are adorable.  I specifically didn't want birds breeding (been there, done that, and spend too much time worrying about the health of the mom).  So I ask the gentleman if he knew the sexes and he said "no".  So I said, OK, just give me two birds, a dark one and a light one.  So what happens.  I no sooner have the little darlings set up in their room then the dark one "puffs up" and starts singing and the lighter one just blinks her little eyelashes.  I am not believing that I have a pair.  Can't happen, he had 20 birds to choose from......

Anyway, now begins my quest to learn all about finches as pets.  I have no intention of even trying to train them. Their purpose is to "do cute"!
